RWS Rifle Shooter's Kit, .177 Caliber

RWS has a reputation for quality throughout its product line. This kit is probably a bunch of items thrown together for marketing purposes. Each item is, for the most part, of high quality. Let us review....

* Two tins of two different lead pellets. Nothing to do with cleaning. Perhaps they are trying to make the kit seem better priced. Anyway, it's fun to shoot pellets you might otherwise not have tried.

* Sectioned cleaning rod. Other rods I have end in a female socket. This rod is male. Since this kit lacks a patch loop (as well as patches), I cannot use the one I have from my other kit. Bummer!

* Cleaning brush and jag. According to the instructions the jag is for use with the cleaning pellets. It seems too big to work with the patches I have. BIG bummer!!

* Cleaning pellets. Enough for two or three cleanings. The pellets work great--wish there were more of them.

* Small pad of targets. Not my kind.

This is a very nice cleaning kit. All of the items are of very high quality and this is all you need to clean your .177 break barrel air rifle (other than an oil for wiping down the exterior, i use silicone oil for a treadmill to prevent inadvertant damage to seals and gaskets - I have a review on this as well). If you don't have a spring air rifle i think you would be fine with a cheaper kit but this kit is needed for the oils alone. These 2 oils individually purchased are closing in on the price of this kit. Buy a cheap cleaning rod, jag and brush and you are there. The rod jag and brush in this kit are very nice. I don't think this kit is that over-priced for what it comes with but I would have liked a cheaper option without the pellets and targets. They are good but not necessary. Instead of these items I would have preferred a plastic tube or case of some kind for the hardware, instead the whole thing just comes in plastic packaging and everything is loose after you open...Read more

If you are just starting out and don't have any of the included items, this may be a good purchase. All the necessities are there to care for and enjoy your new air gun. If you already have ANY of the included items you are better off purchasing only the items you really want or need, on an individual basis. This is not a bargain, it's just a kit, and a pricey one at that.
