A fine airgun for new shooters! Daisy's 840 Grizzly is a single-stroke pneumatic, which means it requires just one pump stroke to power the gun. The airgun is sized for shooters 10 and older (adult supervision required), and the easy pumping effort is geared toward younger folks. The 840 shoots either steel BBs (Never shoot BBs at metal objects) or .177 pellets. With a capacity of 350 BBs, this airgun is truly an all-day shooter. With BBs (350-Feet Per Second), it's a repeater. With pellets (330-Feet Per Second), it's a single-shot. It comes with a fiber optic front sight and an adjustable open rear sight. The receiver is made of tough engineering resin, which helps keep the gun lightweight. The MOBU camo synthetic stock has checkering to ensure a good, steady grip. The dovetail grooves in the receiver make it easy to install a scope or red dot sight. The 840 Grizzly is perfect for plinking, shooting paper targets and training new shooters.... You'll be shooting so much that you had better load up on BBs and pellets. This is a single-stroke pneumatic, which means you pump the lever only one time. A second pump stroke will remove the air the first stroke put in. A great starter rifle. Easy cocking effort, shoots BBs or .177 pellets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent first rifle for youth, February 10, 2007

This rifle is Daisy's bottom line pellet/BB combo rifle. Regular model runs around $37. The actual model # is 840 and has a common name of "Grizzly". However, Daisy did a good job of marketing this model by varying it's name, thus it's price. Other variations are different combos and colors such as this camo. Also there's military green. The regular plain Grizzly is black. Plastic most parts and real light. It's a single pump (very light) and hits at 300 fps. Good enough velocity for targets with pellets. I get a 1" grouping @ 25' free hand. It has fiberoptic front sight.

You don't need to spend additional money for scope, because it's accurate and it's a short distance rifle for plinking and targets. You also don't need the Camo or any disguising color because this isn't a hunting rifle, unless your shooting at snails. The grizzly "kit" might be worth it if you don't have any targets, pellet, bbs etc.

Bottom line, it's inexpensive, accurate, easy to...Read more

My father got me this gun for my 13th birthday. I'm 21 now, I still have it, and it's still fun to shoot cans with. It works with both bb's and pellets. It's a great gun to teach kids safe shooting practices. I should warn you though, it rips through a coke can, and stings like a bastard if you get hit with a ricochet.

Just bought one Daisy 840C (made in China) from amazon 10 days ago. I owned one (made in USA) 20 years ago which is still working good. Both are so accurate that I could hit the bulleye target 50% of the time at about 30 yards (using a 10 dollar scope). My other BB rifles I bought for my sons are the Crossman pumpmasters. They are slightly cheaper, are very loud but much less accurate and very frustrating to shoot small targets. I strongly recommend Daisy for target shooting beginners.
