Muzzlebrake Ambidextrous synthetic stock with grooves on forearm & grip Dual raised cheekpieces Incl. CenterPoint Optics 3-9x32 scope + mount (unmounted) If you shoot a lightweight pellet so its velocity exceeds the speed of sound, it could result in your pellet breaking the sound barrier and the gun being louder than expected! The speed of sound depends on humidity, temperature and altitude. Generally speaking, it's between 1,060 fps and 1,115 fps. Here are the benefits of Nitro Piston Technology: Smoother cocking Smoother shooting No spring torque No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours Functions perfectly in cold weather Lasts longer than a metal spring ... ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous rifle!, July 6, 2011

This is the most perfect and carefree Air Rifle that I can imagine. It is powerful, easy to cock, load and fire. It makes much less noise and has less recoil of any other air rifle I have ever used and is accurate. It is well engineered, flawlessly made and the stock is super sturdy and easy to hold and use. I originally was going to get a custom stock for this, but now that I have handled it, I won't bother; it's just great. The trigger is also very acceptable; no rough spots and no excessive creep. Also, unnaturally, the scope and scope mounts that came with it are very acceptable. I was going to replace the scope but I really don't think that will be necessary either. Another big plus is the Weaver scope rail built into the receiver - takes all the idiocy out of the old slipping scope mount problem with a spring powered rifle.

Many kudos to Crosman for engineering this. It takes air rifles to a new plateau of excellence!

If you need a carefree air rifle that...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A great gun with consistent accuracy, August 3, 2011

I have shot approximately 200 rounds of blunt nose and pointed .177 so far.
Noise: The rifle is getting quieter but still has a fairly loud crack. Less than a balloon popping, more than a BB gun of similar FPS.
Weight: Not for a person without some upper body strength unless they are using a rest to prevent barrel travel.
Optics: Well matched for the rifle. Adjustable diopter for near or far sightedness.
Accuracy: With a rest and a bright, clear, still day consistent 1 inch groups out to 200 feet.
Knock down capability: Took out an adult gray squirrel with a center mass shot at 100 feet with a blunt nose. Penetrated to the spine.

Opinion: This is not your grandfathers air gun, and is not a toy. The craftsmanship is excellent, the operation is brain dead simple.
The factory setting of the trigger was a little stiff so I adjusted it to my liking according to the instructions.
I am looking forward to years of plinking and pest control...Read more

Just got this air rifle from Amazon. Delivery was super fast. Amazon is just amazing. Walmart also sells the same gun at the same price. However, Amazon has free delivery to home plus no sales tax. So I chose Amazon.

One of the reason I got this air rifle is to practice my shooting skills. I have a little cabin in the woods where I can safely fire this air rifle in the backyard where it slopes uphill about 50 ft. And with neighbors at least 300 ft away, I am not too worry about the pellet ricochets and injury someone.

Back to the Crosman Nitro Venom - this gun is very well made, and definitely not a toy gun. At 1200 fps, it is probably at the lower end of the newer nitro piston air rifles (the newer NP air rifles can go close to 1700 fps). But compare to the older technology springloaded break barrel air rifles, the Nitro Venom definitely outpower most of them. At $149, this crosman nitro venom is the cheapest NP I can find online. Most of the other...Read more
