Benjamin Trail NP (Nitro Piston) Breakbarrel Gas piston Bull barrel Ambidextrous thumbhole stock with twin raised cheekpieces Textured grip & forearm 70% quieter than most guns with metal mainsprings Includes Weaver-style rings and unmounted CenterPoint Optics 3-9x40AO scope with mil-dot reticle Sling swivel studs already mounted Synthetic stock If you shoot a lightweight pellet so its velocity exceeds the speed of sound, it could result in your pellet breaking the sound barrier and the gun being louder than expected! The speed of sound depends on humidity, temperature and altitude. Generally speaking, it's between 1,060 fps and 1,115 fps. Here are the benefits of the Nitro Piston: Smoother cocking Smoother shooting No spring torque No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours Functions perfectly in cold weather Lasts longer than a metal spring Click on the ammo link for recommended pellets & the accessories link for targets & more.... ...

In reviewing the Benjamin Trail Np I would have rated the rife a 5. The workmanship, the design, quality, and accessories are great. Sighting in and shoting about 250 rounds through it the acuracy was great, the feel of the rife was also great. At 30 yards I could shot a group of 3 and cover them with a dime. The 22 caliber has alot more knock down power than a 17. The scope is great, clear and I like the elevation Mill Dot for shooting further. It comes with a great rife sling that ad's to its looks. I read all the reviews and I am with the other posts. I found the trigger pull to be very differant. But like the rest of the posters I have gotten use to it. It is nothing like a regular trigger on regular rifes. I really like the air rife now and wouldn't trade it for any others. The Nitrogen piston becomes much quiter with use. If they could refine the trigger I would rate it a 5. Thanks don't be afraid to buy this rife because of the trigger you will get along with it fine

40 years of shooting beginning at age 7. I got hooked on the idea of a break action pellet gun. After some research I choose the 22 cal because I wanted to shoot in a semi suburban environment without disturbing the neighbors with sonic crack. Trail NP arrived in great condition and I began the learning process of shooting this pellet gun accurately.
1. Mounting the scope. Rings come pre-attached. Made bad assumption they were properly spaced and after an hour realized why the d... thing would not attach to the rails properly. Slide the scope rings so they fit the pic rail and you are good.
2. I did read the manual and it clearly states that there is a break in period where the gun will not be very accurate. OK but wow, I was spraying a 12 inch target all over the place (11" group) even after 150 shots and it was loud to boot! Solution: Don't buy cheap daisy pointed pellets. After calling Benji customer service (they really answer their phone and offer helpful...Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars exaggerated velocity, September 23, 2010

The 950 FPS seems to be greatly exaggerated. I averaged around 675 FPS with standard weight lead pellets, 560 with heavy pellets, and 830 FPS with non-lead pellets.
